Holiday Home Decor – Let’s Go Wild This Year!

As we round out the year and the holidays are in full swing, I’d like to take a moment to provide you with fun holiday home decor inspiration, including color ideas that are a little non-traditional and outside the box! I love tradition, nostalgia, and honoring history as much as the next person. Still, sometimes, you need to mix things up to create some fresh enthusiasm for decorating around the holiday. Let’s go over some holiday home decor ideas that may provide the spark to send your holiday decorating to the next level!
Holiday Home Decor – Turn Color Expectation on Its Head

Without straying too far from the expected holiday items, you can choose some alternative color options that provide a new twist/spin on traditional holiday conventions but still represent the holiday spirit! Here are some ideas to get your color-inspired holiday decor jump-started!

Tree Decor of a Different Color

If you’ve poked around the web for some alternative Christmas tree ideas, you’ll know there’s something for everyone, and quite honestly, many ideas push the boundaries of what could still be called a Christmas tree, really! I love it when people run with creative and colorful ideas. I’m not saying I’d put all of them in my home, but there are some fantastic creations out there!

One look that’s hard to argue against is a tree covered in monochromatic ornaments. Picture a beautiful birch Christmas tree covered with purple and navy blue ornaments of all different shades and textured sheens, set against the backdrop of white, lightly twinkling lights; wow!

Beyond the ornaments on the tree, you can opt for a tree of a different color, literally a pastel blue, pink, or white tree! Of course, these trees would not be real, but they are truly fun and make a bold color statement. Picture a room with shades of blue surrounding a blue Christmas tree, white and blue lights scattered within the tree branches, and Elvis’ Blue Christmas playing in the background. It’s a unique ambiance and helps provide a winter wonderland vibe, even if there’s no snow on the ground!

Neighbors a block from our home take their tree out onto the driveway every year and spray it a different color. Last year, they painted their tree black! Hopefully, next year, I will know them well enough to get invited inside to see how they pull this together every year!

Trees have been incorporated in many fun and unexpected ways in recent years. Even trees hanging upside down have become trendy in upscale hotels, malls, and clubs – see the Liberty Hotel in Boston, for example! I’m not suggesting hanging your tree upside down (especially for safety/engineering concerns!), but you get the point: have fun with your tree or trees; why not?!

And don’t forget! Add garlands, leaves, and draped pine branches around your home, inside and out. You can add a bit of nature to your decor in unique ways, not just with trees!

Hanukkah Throughout the Entire Home

Hanukkah decor often concentrates on one or two areas of the home, primarily focusing on where the menorah is located. But you can extend the decor into the whole home if you wish. Sure, keep the family heirloom menorah where it belongs, but why not decorate throughout the rest of the house? I love adding festivity to the entire home!

Try incorporating some decorative smaller menorahs around your home with different color schemes. If your heirloom menorah is gold or bronze with a lovely patina, try something different in other areas. Try a minimalist silver or chrome menorah in the study. I add lots of sparkling silver and blue garlands every year, ensuring our home is as festive as every other home in the neighborhood! Use warm golden fairy lights in jars scattered across countertops and window ledges. Take some vintage glassware and spread it through the halls as keepers of winter florals. There are various ways to spread the Hanukkah decor and spirit throughout the home!

Have the Holiday Treats and Goodies Take the Spotlight

People put so much work into crafting holiday treats and goodies; these delectables truly are works of art unto themselves! An array of colors strewn across dishes of chocolates, cakes, cheeses, and baked goods. Don’t hide them in the staging area; put those beautiful platters on display!

You can take any treats, table foods, and dishes you’ve created and turn them into pretty holiday decor. Add some candles here, some fairy lights there, maybe some garland, pinecones, and wood stalks, perhaps some table ornamentation in support of your platters, and suddenly, your bountiful delectables are centerpieces worth showcasing.

Have Fun with Holiday Home Decor

As we close one year out for the next, it’s so important to remember to enjoy the time spent with loved ones and friends. Gatherings are tough to arrange, and the holidays help us stay connected with what’s important. Decorate with your loved ones, get inspired by each other’s design ideas and tastes, and don’t feel you MUST follow everything traditionally. Tradition is wonderful, but introducing alternative fun into your holiday design arrangements is energizing, and if you do it with family members, it’s much more fun! Whatever you try out doesn’t need to take centerstage but contribute in its own, different way 🙂

Happy Holidays and a Safe and Healthy New Year to you all; I look forward to sharing more color inspiration with you next year!
