Spring Colors 2020: Love These Spring Colors All Year Round!

Do you feel that change in the air? The sharp wind chill is starting to get a bit softer, the sun is starting to get a bit brighter and the air smells clean & fresh.

It’s almost spring! We went over winter & holiday color palettes a couple of months ago, so now it’s time to talk about spring colors trends, 2020 edition.

As a color consultant, I love that the change in the seasons opens up our eyes to new possibilities with design and color options. In my view, the best part of the spring colors is loving is that they work as year-round color options.

You can implement these colors into your home or business now and still love it during peak summer, fall and winter!

Blush Pink

As you almost certainly know, blush pink is one of the top millennial colors out there, even garnering a new moniker: millennial pink.

Soft pinks aren’t solely for millennials, though. This is a very traditional spring color that perfectly encapsulates the soft & bright feelings of spring. However, it’s also perfect all year to add a touch of soft color to your home via trim, accessories, pillows and more.

Because pastels like blush are a classic springtime color trend, pairing it with other pastels works quite well for this time of year. Mint green, soft blues, lilac and whispery soft grays are all excellent options for pairing with blush this spring. The beauty of this color is that it can compliment neutral colors beautifully from creams to browns, and light grays to a rich charcoal.

To make this color work year round, I suggest pairing it with darker colors like saturated neutrals or deep colors like a rich navy, burgundy or darker greens like emeralds and olive.

Earthy Greens

Speaking of dark greens, earthy greens are a great spring color for 2020 that will work year-round. As the popularity of biophilic interior design increases, so does the popularity of more natural & earthy colors.

Apple green or herbal greens like Pantone’s chive, aqua-inspired green-blues and sage are all seeing an uptick in popularity for this spring. But, as I said before, these colors are here to stay thanks to biophilic design and an overall trend towards the natural side of life. These colors are remarkably versatile during the spring season, where in the other times of year they pair well with khakis, browns and pastels.

Yellow Galore

Would a spring color trend list really be complete without mentioning yellow? I personally love using yellow all year long in order to add some bright pops of color throughout the year.

However, we all know that spring and summer is when bright and pastel yellows truly shine. Yellow embodies the bright happiness and sunshine that spring brings, making it a perfect match for this season.

If you’re a bit wary about using bright yellow or classic pastels, consider going a bit darker with yellows like Benjamin Moore’s Sparkling Sun or even yellows that skew towards greenish yellow or a more orangey yellow. This aligns with the earthiness that’s trending this year while still giving you that bright yellow pop you look for in the springtime.

Bright Reds & Oranges

Last, we have a little bit of a wild card. You might remember from the 2020 color trends post that the biggest trend I’ve been noticing this year is that people aren’t really following traditional trends as closely anymore.

That’s definitely true with this latest spring trend of bright reds and oranges! These colors are often reserved for summertime or to align with fall foliage, but scarlet red and bright tangerine orange were all over New York Fashion Week, predicting this new color trend.

Bright reds and oranges pair well with traditional springtime pastels while also fitting right in with bright summer colors, fall foliage and even holiday & winter color schemes. You won’t regret your bright pops later in the year: this trend is here to stay.
