How to Awaken Your Spring Porch With Design & Color!

When spring comes around and finally shows us its true colors, it’s a fabulous time of year. I know I’m enthusiastic about seasons, but it’s hard not to be, as a color expert! Spring brings us many opportunities for new color palettes and new design ideas, both indoors and outdoors! This article will discuss spring porch decor and the color-inspired ideas that come with it!

Why Add Colorful Porch Decor to Your Outdoor Design Scheme?

Many people tend to believe that adding seasonal decor to your porch is only appropriate in the fall and winter when the weather gets colder, the foliage turns, the leaves fall, and the popular reds and greens/ blues and golds are in season.

However, there are plenty of opportunities to add spring-themed porch decor and exterior paint colors to your outdoor spaces and entryways! Why embrace only a few seasons when you can embrace all of them! Spring is a time often associated with rebirth and awakening; it’s a missed opportunity not to reawaken your porches, patios, and decks.

Here are some ideas to help you make the most of your porch in spring:

Add New Color-Inspired Furniture

The warmer spring weather means you, your family, and your guests have more places to enjoy each other’s company. No rule is saying you must settle for white plastic picnic table chairs and uncomfortable stoops! You can add a loveseat porch swing, wicker chairs and even paint some older pieces to bring new life to forgotten outdoor furniture.

Picture this: a porch swing, painted a lovely light blue/gray, draped with comfortable, sunny yellow throw pillows. In front of you is a reconditioned outdoor table, painted a darker, matte blue. You’ve got a lovely breeze, soft sunshine, and spring birds chirping to complete the atmosphere. And of course, some lovely iced tea garnished with fresh mint leaves from your garden! Ooh-la-la!

That scene sounds nice, doesn’t it!? There’s so much potential for porch space, and it’s important to capitalize on it while you can.

Spring Porch Decor That’s Quick and Easy

  • Flora

Spring is the perfect time to pick up some new flowers and plants for the porch. The colorful lilacs, rhododendrons, snapdragons, cherry blossoms, and apple blossoms look beautiful in baskets or even painted terra cotta plant pots.

If you find your porch lacks contrasting colors and a sense of natural beauty, flowers, plants, and pottery are a great and quick way to add color-inspiration!

  • Lanterns

The spring brings with it longer days and warmer evenings, which are just perfect to be enjoyed by the light of lanterns. Whether they are hanging lanterns powered by candlelight or string lights and Edison bulbs, there’s nothing better than sitting out under lantern light enjoying your spring porch.

Spring porch decor doesn’t only need to be enjoyed in the daylight, and you’ll find the space has more use when it is softly illuminated for dinner parties and evening cocktails.

  • Create a colorful space

We decorate the inside of our homes and don’t think of the colors of the outside as often. The front porch offers a variety of places to add color! Add a colorful porch floor or a richly colored front door or shutters that make a bold statement. Colors that you will only see while you are on the porch itself, don’t be afraid to go bold! Here’s the place to have fun with your outdoor color palette!

  • Spring Wreaths

I know not many homeowners associate decorative wreaths with spring, but there are many creative ways to create a wreath that embraces the essence of spring and brings life to your front door!

Now, don’t think I’m crazy, but I’ve seen a beautiful hanging spring wreath that was made from rain boots, yes, rain boots! These duck-yellow boots were stuffed with flowers and hung from a traditional stark white front door, and the results were outrageously color-inspired and fun!

Another great spring wreath idea is to use an older woven basket (farmhouse-inspired) and add marigolds, daisies, and other sunny flowers into it. Hang the basket from your front door, and your guest will be greeted by a burst of spring before they step into your home.

Embrace Spring by Embracing Your Porch!

It’s important to acknowledge that your front porch is an extension of your home, and it should never be neglected, regardless of the season. As a color specialist, I’m always looking at every corner of a property to see how to bring out more color-inspiration, and homeowners can often overlook the front porch, but it doesn’t need to be this way! Take a moment to think about how and spring porch decor and outside paint colors can bring a tired porch back to life for spring!

Please share any spring porch decor ideas you have! I’d love to hear what decor and colors make you love spring even more!
