5 Remarkably Fresh Bathroom Color Ideas

One of the most difficult rooms in the home for people to agree upon for color choices, is the bathroom. Many think the bathroom would be one of the simpler places to choose a color scheme, but it’s not!

As I have said before, you want to match the emotional intention of the space and use colors to affect mood. It’s harder to accomplish this with a bathroom than most would realize.

Bathrooms come in all shapes, sizes, and design schemes. Some are luxurious, and others are more utilitarian. The best colors for small bathrooms may not be the appropriate colors for a larger bathroom. The best tile and trim choices for a bathroom in one region may make very little sense in another.

Make no mistake, bathrooms can be a challenge for color consultants and non-professionals alike. However, it’s not impossible to discover color-inspirations for your bathroom!

In this article, I’m going to cover five fresh bathroom color ideas that will add beauty and possibly enhance the look of this personal space.

1. A Warm White Base Color is a Great Way to Start and End Your Day

When we think about our days, they start and end in the bathroom. You prepare yourself for the day’s tasks and get a clear understanding of how your face, body, and clothes present themselves and represent you! It’s great to see how you look without interference from commanding colors altering the natural hue.

By having warm white or off-white colors such as eggshell in the bathroom, you can see how your garment arrangement looks in natural light. Warm white walls will reflect natural light, which can help you feel fresh and clear-minded. A paint color expert will tell you that by adding warm undertones to white, the bathroom will feel less like a sterile hospital and more like a comforting/safe place to be.

As well all know, there are a gazillion whites to choose from. My suggestion is if you are exploring paint colors in the white color family, choose a color that is not too cold or too bright. Select a color that is easy on the eyes for the most soothing design.

A second issue to think about is the lighting. It is well worth the effort to request larger color samples and put them up on your bathroom walls. Experience your color choice under the lighting of your room before you make your final color choice!

2. How Three Colors can Create the Perfect Color Palette

It’s a smart idea to work with the guiding principles of color to help you arrange a fresh color palette. This is especially true for bathrooms, where there isn’t as much space to work with, and every color choice has to be perfect! The best colors for small bathrooms and larger bathrooms are those that create a seamless experience that is not offensive to the senses.

You’ll want to proportion the color choices out appropriately. You’ll need one dominant neutral color as the base color for the bathroom, accompanied by a supporting rich color and an accent color too. These colors will work together to create a harmony that is inspired, not lifeless.

Here’s another way to define this idea. Your neutral color choice might be your white fixtures and wall tile; there might be a secondary color that is your cabinetry color. The third color could be the accent color like charcoal gray towels, brass hardware, or even the room’s paint color. Suddenly it seems like creating a color palette of three colors is easy and makes a lot of sense!

3. Don’t Be Afraid to Use Bolder Colors

Lots of homeowners are afraid to incorporate bolder or darker colors into their bathroom. There’s a misconstrued notion that dark colors will make a bathroom seem small and uninviting.

This is not the case, and dark colors can bring a dynamic and unique look to space. Deep royal blues, mulberry purples, or even matte black can be stunning in a bathroom when juxtaposed to white trim, cabinetry, decorative tiles, or free-standing tubs with shiny hardware!.

I suggest sampling some darker colors when creating your color palette for your bathroom. Just because it’s not the traditional choice for a bathroom doesn’t mean it is the wrong choice!

I like to think of a small space like a bathroom as a unique opportunity to try a bolder color. Because you don’t have a lot of wall space, try a color that makes you smile every time you walk into the room.

A periwinkle blue, a delicate pink or even a charcoal gray can be the statement color you are looking for. Trying a stronger color in a small space is an opportunity to have fun with your paint colors. Because it is a personal space, think outside the box; what have you got to lose?

4. Look to Nature for Color-Inspiration

Nature-inspired, organic colors are excellent for the bathroom because of their stress-reducing properties. There are color hues that are subconsciously relaxing and inviting to us, and many of these colors are earth tones.

I mentioned in another blog post, considering the emotional intention of a space. That directly relates to the nature-inspired color palette. If you are looking for a quieter space that is soothing and understated, choose colors that have the same vibe.

Pale sky blues, soft corals, and seashore grays are calming as well as helpful in softening the appearance of sharp and rigid edges within a bathroom. Blue, green, violet and gray some of the best stress-relieving colors, and they work exceptionally well within a bathroom space.

Looking for a quieter place to start and end each day? Here’s the place to have the colors make that happen for you. Look to nature for a more soothing bathroom color-inspiration.

5. Work With the Color Flow of Your Home

Successful design often creates a look and feel that will be consistent throughout your home. An experienced color specialist will tell you that it’s ideal to work with the natural ebbs and flows of a personalized color palette. What do I mean by this?

Is your home outgoing and colorful, quiet and soothing or perhaps loyal to a particular style or period? Well, it’s wise to incorporate the same sense of style and colors into your bathroom design. Instead of completely ignoring the pre-established color schemes in your home already, find inventive ways to use them in your bathroom!

I’m not telling you to be afraid of choosing new and different colors for your bathroom. However, the colors that are threaded throughout your entire home can be worked into your bathroom with great results. It is another way to find what inspires you, to find the colors that make you truly happy.

Are you inspired to try a new approach to your bathroom colors? I certainly hope so. Whether you are looking for colors that are soothing or outgoing, softer or bolder, think about each of the five ideas I shared in this post and find what direction is right for you!

I hope you are inspired, and I would love to see what you do with the design of this personal space in your home. To learn more about bathroom colors and other color and design trends, please get in touch!
