Add Springtime Colors in Unique Ways: Part 1 – Floral Inspiration

Spring is many feelings at once; invigorating, relieving, energizing, calming, soothing, refreshing, and so forth. I’ve yet to meet anyone who didn’t enjoy spring in some regard, but we can all agree that spring is a fresh start, if nothing else! We say goodbye to the solemn, cozy, and somewhat introspective days of winter for longer, warmer, and brighter days.

Springtime and spring color palettes are not new subjects to this blog, but every year I feel inspired to revisit the themes and colors of spring. There are so many ways to change your interior and exterior design, color schemes, and even floral arrangements, which is the subject of this article.

In this multi-part series on what spring colors are and how homeowners can use them, I’ll recommend some traditional and non-traditional ways to create spring floral arrangements to get you excited about the budding season to come!

What Are Springtime Colors?

The most renowned colors when we say “traditionalist springtime colors” include shades of pink, blue, green, yellow, and lavender. While these colors have been heavily adopted by Easter-themed decor, their origins stem from nature’s annual transitions upon entering spring.

Pastel pink is a classic spring color associated with sweetness and femininity; it is often pictured with cherry blossoms and roses, which are most beautiful in the late days of spring.

Sky blue is another popular spring color representing clearer horizons, new beginnings, and an escape from the monochromatic grays of winter.

Light greens and yellows are foundational spring colors, representing the growth and renewal of nature. Light and fresh shades of green evoke a sense of nature’s purity and rebirth. At the same time, yellow represents the warmth, energy, and nurturing nature of the sun, which begins to shine brighter during this season.

Lavender is associated with delicate and fragrant flowers that bloom during spring, such as the Hyacinth. As lavender is a soft purple, its presence is soothing, relaxed, and unrushed. The first sign of spring in many areas of the country is the brilliant lavender crocuses coming up in our yards; it’s as if they are excited to appear on the first day of warmer weather (as if they have been waiting all winter)!

Traditional Floral Arrangements

As we are all coming out of winter, an invigorating way of shifting gears and welcoming the warmer months is to welcome the colors of spring into our homes! Fresh floral arrangements can really do the trick and elevate your environment into a spring-inspired treat for the eyes!

Without needing much else, cherry blossoms can stand out beautifully against any backdrop. Whether sitting in a cool kitchen full of off-whites and neutrals or even in a darker office or study, the gentle kiss of soft-pink cherry blossoms is a timeless and purely elemental force in any space. I love how they look standing alone cut to different lengths, but they can also be incorporated into more elaborate bouquets and act as a calming buffer between the louder colors.

If you’d prefer something more elaborate that could serve as a centerpiece, combine some beautiful yellow and purple tulips with soft pink peonies! Use a crystal vase to display their healthy and vibrant green stalks; it’s a trick that never fails!

Alternative Floral Arrangements

Now, if you’re ready to try something a little different and steer clear of the traditional pink, lavender, and yellow arrangements, fear not; there are some inspired and creative spring floral arrangements that I expect you’ve never seen repeated before. I’d be wary of calling myself an experienced color consultant if I didn’t have some alternative color options to choose from along with the traditional!

In a departure from spring’s louder, brighter floral arrangements, it’s a great strategy to go with sleek, slender, and understated floral options. What do I mean by this? Picture some apple blossoms in a tall, slender vase. The white petals, nutty brown stems, and lush green leaves all bounce off each other in an understated and elegant way.

Or who says flowers need to be in the arrangement at all? Simply taking some tree branches in early spring with a mix of different leaf lengths, greens, and tones can create a gorgeous, earthy, and rustic charm that works on the strengths of greens and browns.

What Are Springtime Colors to You?

So, I’ve provided some floral recommendations, but what are some floral arrangements or simple color arrangements that remind you of spring? What tells you spring is here, and a new cycle of the seasons has arrived!? Please share your thoughts; I always love hearing them!
