Mint Green Colors: A Refreshing Spark of Tranquility

Stagnation –  it’s an interior designer and color specialist’s biggest concern. “Will this room and these colors feel or become stagnant and lifeless?” I ask myself these questions when curating color arrangements all the time. As a color expert, I have to think not only in the immediate short-term but also in the long term. I must consider whether my chosen colors will still be impactful and appreciated long after the “honeymoon phase” is over. “Will they still love their space once the paint is dry and they are onto decorating other rooms?” I certainly hope so!

Thankfully, some colors provide just the anecdote for lifeless, stagnant palette arrangements. Simply painting a wall or even accessorizing a space with one of these “trendy” colors will do wonders for homes, but the interest in them can fade fast, and that’s what I am always on the lookout for!

A color/color family that’s captured the attention of many homeowners in recent years is mint green. Mint green colors, all variations of them, have worked near miracles in interior design compositions as of late. It’s refreshing, fun-loving, and youthful. I could go on and on, but I digress. Back to writing this post! In this blog, I will explain why mint greens are so effective at refreshing spaces and simple ways to get some sweet, minty inspiration into your home!

Mint Green Colors – Why Are They Effective?

What’s special about mint green? What sets it apart from the other greens? Mint green colors have some characteristics that help differentiate it from other greens such as forest, emerald, or even lime. Mint greens’ most unique feature is their slight blue undertone; this blue tint differentiates them from other light greens in a powerful, albeit subtle way, giving the color its cool tone/presence.

Mint green colors are less saturated, meaning they have a lower intensity or vividness than more vibrant green shades like lime or candy apple. These characteristics give mint greens a subtleness, coolness, and balance that other greens do not have, which is why it is an effective color option when used intentionally. As the old double-mint gum commercials used to say, “It’s double fresh, double smooth.” (Sorry, I had to do it)

Mint Green Colors – What Emotions Do They Elicit?

What I find fabulous and fascinating about mint greens is that they are simultaneously “refreshing” and soothing. What do I mean by this? Mint greens serve a dual purpose because they bring an impression of cleanliness, energy, freshness, and focus while also being soothing, calming, forgiving, and tranquil. Mint greens are truly the “zen masters” of the color world, providing a balanced “calm energy,” as counterintuitive as that may sound.

This unique, soothing energy is the driving force behind mint green’s popularity in homes today. Homeowners who want to invigorate areas of their homes without sacrificing peace and balance find their needs met with mint green color selections.

Mint Green Colors – Strategies to Explore

Mint green is an extremely forgiving color, making it versatile for spaces and applications. I’ve had very few instances where mint green clashed with the palette around it, so don’t be afraid to use it!

  • Mint green trim/shelves

Spaces that are too neutral and contain too many cool whites and greiges look incredible with a pop of mint green. Picture a white, built-in hutch or bookshelf with the edges and trim painted with mint green, highlighting color without over-energizing the space.

  • Mint green in the bathroom and kitchen

When our eyes see mint colors, our senses are awakened. We can smell mint, taste it, and it’s a cleansing, awakening experience. Doesn’t bringing that sensation and pleasantness to the bathroom make sense!? Mint green backsplash tiles, cabinetry, walls, and even free-standing fixtures like bathtubs all look fabulous in the bathroom or airy kitchen design.

  • Mint green in the bedroom

The soothing blue undertones within mint green do their job well in the bedroom. By incorporating mint curtains, comforters, or accent pieces, homeowners can add to the relaxing atmosphere of the bedroom and help to create color layers beyond the expected.

  1. Hi Amy – good tips and pretty images with mint green though I will admit it’s not one of my favorite colors. But I can definitely see why it would be so appealing.
